Angered villagers have the chance to speak out about a suddenly demolished wall and future development at a historic property tomorrow night.

Blofield Parish Council has called an extraordinary meeting to give people the chance to discuss the demolition of the centuries old wall in North Street and developments at The Manor House.

Farmer David Murrell took his digger to the Norfolk red brick wall, believed to have been up to 300 years old, earlier this month.

The wall was part of the kitchen garden wall to the manor house once owned by the Mackintosh family, famed for their chocolate business.

Mr Murrell, from South Walsham, who now owns the property, did not need planning permission to knock down the wall but people living in the village were shocked by his actions.

Tomorrow's meeting will be held at Blofield Village School at 7.30pm

Michael Tetlow, chairman of the parish council, said: 'There's so much anger and upset in the village that I think it's necessary to call a meeting.

'Mr Murrell hasn't broken any planning laws as such and I believe he's going to put in a planning application but he's caused so much upset that it's a chance for people to raise their concerns.'

It is believed Mr Murrell plans to use the land for housing.

A Broadland District Council spokesman previously confirmed that Mr Murrell, who did not wish to comment, did not need planning permission to demolish the wall.

Any enquiries about the meeting should be made to the parish clerk on 01603 721474.
