Danny Kerry can follow in Sir Alex Ferguson's footsteps this evening by landing a prestigious coaching award.

The former pupil of King's Lynn's King Edward VII School (KES) is in the running to be crowned high performance coach of the year at tonight's 2015 UK Coaching Awards in Manchester after enjoying a stellar 2015 in charge of England and Great Britain's women's hockey teams.

Thame-based Kerry, 45 tomorrow, is up against Jessica Ennis-Hill's mentor Toni Minichiello and England ladies' netball chief Tracey Neville as they look to match the past exploits of Manchester United legend Ferguson, pictured, and last year's winner Gary Street – honoured after masterminding England's maiden Women's Rugby World success.

Kerry, who will be unable to attend the ceremony because he's with Britain's squad at the World League Finals in Argentina, said: 'I'm delighted to be shortlisted as it reflects the increasing profile of hockey and the hard work that all the athletes and staff have put in.

'Winning two golds and going undefeated in 15 matches reflects the work ethic and dedication of the athlete and staff group.'

Kerry's stunning year saw him lead GB to World League R3 gold, securing qualification for next year's Olympic Games in Rio, as well as clinching England's first European Championship title in 24 years.
