New figures have revealed that more of the region's trains are running on time this year than last.

Network Rail has released punctuality figures showing that 5.5pc more trains run by National Express East Anglia are running on time.

The figures showed that between February 7 and March 6, 92pc of the operator's services ran punctually.

Andrew Chivers, managing director of National Express East Anglia, said: “Though there is still much work to do, I am pleased with the latest figures.

“We continue to work closely with our colleagues at Network Rail to improve our performance still further and continue to invest in the railway, implementing better services through our £185m service improvement plan.”

The service plan includes the construction of 120 new rail carriages and the transfer of 68 additional modern carriages to East Anglia services.

The Norwich in 90 campaign was launched earlier this year to urge rail bosses to cut the journey time between Norwich and London to 90 minutes.
