A Norfolk nurse has moved a step closer to his dream of flying into space.

Dominic Lewis, who is a staff nurse at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, was one of 44,000 people to apply to be on the Lynx Space Academy.

The 29-year-old thanked all of his supporters after receiving more than 1,200 votes and getting into the top 200 to be in with a chance of being a passenger on a XCOR Lynx space plane from Florida.

Mr Lewis said he received official confirmation this week that he was through to the next round and will compete in some 'Krypton Factor-style' competitions in the Lynx Space Academy live event in July at Westfield Shopping Centre for a place at the Global Space Camp.

Mr Lewis, who lives in Sutton in north Norfolk, said he had always had a keen interest in space exploration.
