A young movie maker from Norfolk who shot an award-winning film in Slovenia says he and his producer will put their friendship on hold for 90 minutes tomorrow for the crunch World Cup encounter.

Former Fakenham College student Will McGregor earlier this year won a Royal Television Society award for his short film Who's Afraid of the Water Sprite which is inspired by Slovenian folklore and about a mythical eastern European creature.

The film, which in February won a hat trick of awards at the National Student Film Festival in Bristol, was shot in and around the village of Bosljjva Loka, has a female Slovenian producer Manca Gale.

Mr McGregor, from East Rudham, near Fakenham, said the pair are good friends, but will be hoping for different outcomes in the match which could end England's World Cup hopes following the abject 0-0 draw with Algeria last Friday.

The 22-year-old said he and Ms Gale will both be watching the match on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury where they are staying for this year's music festival.

He said: 'It's going to be interesting. We're very good friends but there will probably be a bit of banter. I want England to go through and would much rather that they won.'

Under fire Fabio Capello's struggling side go into tomorrow's match knowing that only a win will guarantee them a place in the knock-out stages of the tournament - anything less and they could be heading home.

The England team have been widely criticised for two lacklustre performances in the tournament which have produced only two points and just one goal.

In comparison Slovenia currently top the group after a win over Algeria and 2-2 draw with the United States last time out.

Mr McGregor said there was little evidence of football fever in Slovenia while they filmed out there a couple of years ago during the Euro 2008 tournament which, like England, the Slovenians did not qualify for.

He said: 'Slovenia is a beautiful place but we didn't really see much about football. There wasn't much about their league, not like here where it's on the front of all the papers.'

Mr McGregor has just finished a degree in digital film and screen arts at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) at Farnham and is looking to continue on his impressive start in the world of film-making.
