A team of businessmen from a Norfolk Round Table branch will be getting on their bikes this weekend to raise money for charities helping young victims of the Chernobyl disaster and deaf children.

The Harleston and District Round Table team, including Paul Muncila (The Tudor Bakehouse), Terry Devlin (Devlin Plummer Stained Glass), Nigel Bettridge (Moulton Windows), Joel Keeble (Harleston Tyres), Phillip Ramsay (Chapel Doors) and Gary Briggs (BMC East), will be cycling from Paris to Harleston this Saturday to raise money for the Friends of Chernobyl's Children and Cochlear Implanted Children's Support Group.

The group will be travelling to Paris and then cycling the 360 miles from in front of the city's iconic Eiffel Tower back to Harleston, stopping every 60 miles to stay at pre-selected hotels along the route.

The men have been training for the gruelling ride by taking on cycling challenges, including the Hethersett 30/60 where cyclists can choose a 30 mile route or a 60 mile course.

Mr Muncila said: 'Inspired by the Olympics we have been putting in long hours getting ourselves in shape for the challenge of cycling from Paris, France to our home town of Harleston back in Britain. This 360 mile ride will test every ounce of our strength and stamina, but it's all in a good cause.'

The Chernobyl charity brings children from orphanages and disadvantages in Belarus to the UK for a month each year and needs £10,000 each year.

The charity was chosen because it has a long association with the Round Table organisation.

The Cochlear charity is a voluntary organisation run by families whose children cannot get sufficient benefit from hearing aids.

The team expects to take six days to complete the journey from Paris. To sponsor them, visit https://www.justgiving.com/teams/harleston924
