Newsagents and shops in Norwich are rallying round to raise money for children and young people with cancer.

The Evening News is supporting children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent throughout the festive period.

The charity helps children and their families in Norfolk by offering emotional, practical and financial support, but it survives on donations to fund this work.

Shops in Norwich will be helping to fundraise by having charity collection tins on their counters.

Chris Johnson, who runs the two PJ's stores in Spencer Street and Silver Road in Norwich, is one of the newsagents taking part.

He said: “We do have charity collection tins on our counters as we, and our customers, like to help out.

“We are pleased to be part of the Evening News Christmas appeal for CLIC Sargent.”

December is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the Evening News is asking its readers to dig deep in the run-up to Christmas.

Whether it is dropping some spare change in a collection tin or organising an event at work, every little bit helps as even £1.50 can buy a set of three booklets to give to a child diagnosed with cancer to help them understand the illness in children's terms.

Karen Roberts, CLIC Sargent's community fundraising manager for the Norfolk area, said: “We're really grateful to local shops and businesses for getting behind the appeal and displaying our charity collection boxes.

“From simply putting a collection tin on your shop counter to having a fancy dress day at work, there are a number of ways you can take part - and every penny raised really counts.

“If your shop or business would like to join in with the appeal this Christmas and make a real difference to families whose lives have been turned upside down by childhood cancer then please do get in touch.”
