I feel compelled to write about the official opening of the Norwich Northern Distributor Route. I refuse to call it Broadland Northway, not only is it a bad choice of name but the road runs from east to west and not north.

The opening ceremony was kept very quiet, no information on the website, and it appears only politicians and local councillors invited. Many, many people, including myself spent hours writing letters in support and against the road. Opinions were expressed and feelings ran high at times, particularly over issues of newts and bats.

Then to see Keith Simpson MP performing the opening ceremony I think was the last straw. When I communicated with him in the early stages I cannot say he was over enthusiastic. Now he is committing himself to campaigning for the western link to be built and the road, as originally planned, completed from Postwick to Easton. This is very commendable and I sincerely hope he keeps his word.

He is involved with the A47 dualling between Easton and Hockering and then there is the Food Hub to consider. All three are linked and both road constructions should surely be linked. I just hope progress will be made fairly quickly to at least keep to the planned program of construction.

Without the western link the present road will not live up to its expectations.
