New outdoor play areas for children, a community bus and training for volunteers are among 68 community projects across Norwich and the surrounding area celebrating a share of more than 470,000.

The money comes from the Big Lottery Fund's small grants scheme Awards for All.

Grants of between 300 and 10,000 have been awarded to social and environmental projects that will benefit local communities and make a difference to the lives of those most in need.

Among those receiving money are Norwich Door-to-Door, Norfolk Disabled Parents Alliance, Mulbarton Children's Centre, Norwich-based charity Musical Keys, Disabled Information and Advice Line (DIAL) in Great Yarmouth and Puddleducks Community Playgroup.

Sallie Eastick, of Musical Keys, which helps children and young people with special needs and disabilities to gain new skills and further their development through music and movement, said the 9,265 grant will be used to recruit and train new volunteers.

She said: 'Being a charity in these times you are delighted for the support. It helps us to continue with our work.'

Norwich Door-to-Door plans to use its 10,000 grants towards a new bus to transport older people to community venues and health appointments and Mulbarton Children's Centre plans to use its 3,358 towards a new outdoor play area.

Sara Betsworth, Big Lottery Fund head in the eastern region, said: 'I am really pleased that our Awards for All funding continues to reach all corners of the region.'
