Local promoters Tilting Sky have a track record of bringing upcoming names to Norwich as well as giving a leg up to local bands. And next week marks the return of their Tilting Sky Festival, featuring nine shows at four venues in eight days.

Craig Hill, the man behind Tilting Sky Promotions, has teamed up with Norwich Arts Centre, the Waterfront, Open and The Bicycle Shop for the event.

The festival has been off the calendar in recent years, but returns in 2012 and with different musical styles covered, and a programme that avoids gig clashes, it aims to appeal to all tastes.

Norwich indie-pop favourites The Kabeedies kick everything off tomorrow afternoon with an all-ages show at the Open venue from 12.30pm (3). They will be joined by Britain's Got Talent Finalist Sam Kelly, We Can't Dance, Owl Museum and Tom Cox. The Kabeedies, playing their last gigs with singer Katie Allard, then headline an over-18s only show at the same venue tomorrow night (6), backed by The Barlights, Solko, Eyes, Alex Hill and Tom Cox.

Sunday sees Hemingway, who have been compared to The National, Suede, The Cure, make their debut headline show at the Waterfront Studio (5). Special guests will be Alto 45, who have received much critical acclaim for their recently released album The Spectrum Sings; Crystal Bats who created a buzz following their recently released Stranger EP, and Norwich indie/rock outfit National Image complete the line up.

On Monday Sargasso Trio continue their return to the Norwich live music scene with a special headline show also at the Waterfront Studio (5), with special guests The Vagaband, Dove & Boweevil and Deadbeats.

The festival switches to Norwich Arts centre on Tuesday for a headline appearance by Cielo (6) who were formed after the chance meeting and impromptu jam session between George 'Guitar George' Britcher and Norwich singer/rapper Arnob Basit at Norwich City College in 2008. Support comes from Mila Falls, The Actor & The Peach and Phoebe York. Next Wednesday sees the Waterfront hosting a night dedicated to the wealth of young talent coming through from our region, showcasing four of the most promising bands Ask Lydia, Sancho Blanco, Twisted Piglet and Smokes Shoots And Leaves (5).

Thursday sees Tilting Sky returning to its roots with an 'out of towners' night at the Waterfront Studio featuring new bands. Appearing will be Affairs, Model Staggs, Cathedrals & Cars and Waxing Captors, all for a cut-price entry of just 2.

The festivities conclude next Friday at The Bicycle Shop, the perfect venue for a special Songwriters Evening (4) — an 'intimate show to highlight some of our finest songwriters'. Playing will be King Laconic, Rory Hill, Phoebe York, Tom Pearce and Jon Hart.
