It's in its 15th year but the Gig In The Park at Halesworth, which takes place this weekend, will never be the same gain. The three-day event is a real community gathering, made possible by local people who give their time for free.

And though it doesn't attract the really big names, the three-day mini-festival has built up a great reputation and has become a favourite for families from right across the region. However the organisers of music bonanza have announced that next year's event will be scaled down because of rising costs.

Andy Graham, one of the organisers said: 'We have seen the bill for the fuel we use in the generators rocket to the point that it is now bigger than the cost of the hire and transport of the machines themselves.

'The committee do not want to simply put up the ticket price to cover this and therefore make it unaffordable to some within the community. Nor do they want to lower the high standard of this professionally run and well respected event. 'We are all exceedingly proud of the Gig in the Park and as volunteer organisers, our aim has always been to give an annual event that is accessible to and enjoyed by all ages.'

Whether it's the news that this is the last year in its current form or just that people are keen to see this year's line-up, advance ticket sales for this weekend final Gig in the Park have soared.

Katrina — who is best known for the hit Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves — headlines tonight. The Fun Lovin Criminals headline tomorrow night with Nine Below Zero, who have a strong following, also on the bill together with a full supporting bill of both local and nationally known acts over three stages.

The former second stage will be known as the unplugged@giginthepark stage and will feature acoustic style performers. The third stage, which was known as The Jungle Stage, will be The Other stage and is designed to be a platform for local artists. Others taking to the stage will include Buster James, Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers, Belter, Lee Vasey, Mary Leay, Benjamin Bloom, Hattie Murdoch, Uncle Frank, El Bastados, The Folk Collective, Tiny Dragons, The Proposition, Chasing Tigers, Gracie Wright and Crumbs For Comfort.

Alongside the music, as ever, there will be craft and food stalls and a real ale beer tent with one of the longest mobile bars in the UK.

Andy Graham added: 'The committee really hope that everybody who has enjoyed the event over the last 15 years will turn out in force to give it the best send off possible.

'The organisers have pulled out all the stops to make Halesworth proud for one last time. As a community event all of the organisers are volunteers who spend many hours ensuring that we run a top quality professional event that can be enjoyed by the whole family and over the past 15 years the gig has supported the community by donating any profits to community good causes.'
