A mother-of-two has walked the length of the Marriott's Way to raise money for a children's bereavement charity.

Stephanie Blanch walked the 21 miles from Aylsham to Norwich on Saturday, September 1 for Nelson’s Journey – a charity which supports children dealing with a family bereavement.

The 36-year-old discovered the charity through her work at Peter Taylor Funeral Service on Norwich Road in Costessey.

As a mother of two children, she said their work struck a chord with her.

Mrs Blanch said: “I have two children myself and it means a lot to me to raise funds for this worthwhile cause. I chose a long sponsored walk because I wanted my fundraiser to be hard but achievable, to reflect the journey these youngsters go on as they learn to deal with the loss of a parent or sibling.”

Despite struggling with pain in her hips, she completed the walk in seven-and-a half hours.

She said: “It was very painful towards the end. My feet and knees were fine, but my hips and thighs hurt for the last eight miles.”

Two friends walked the last five miles with Mrs Blanch to help her complete the charity challenge.

“They got me through it by singing songs.” she said. “I thought, I have got to get to the end.”

Mrs Blanch began her journey at 8.30am from Aylsham and after getting lost around Reepham, completed the walk by 4pm.

Having raised about £400 so far, Mrs Blanch and the team at Nelson’s Journey have yet to decide whether the money raised will go towards the day-to-day work of the charity, or a special event that will benefit bereaved children.
