Two motorcycle racing stars will be helping villagers in Frettenham raise money for a Norwich children's charity in February.

Isle of Man TT racers Guy Martin and Will Dunlop – son of the late Robert who was crowned 125cc champion four times at the prestigious event – will be the stars of the show to try to help raise some money for Norwich-based charity Nelson's Journey, which supports bereaved children.

Martin finished fourth in the Isle of Mann TT last year, while Dunlop is the nephew of former world champion Joey Dunlop – who became both an MBE and OBE before dying in a racing accident in Estonia in 2000 – so comes from a famous racing family and is now building his own reputation in the sport.

Organiser Shaun Catterall – who has had a brush with death himself – said: 'They are both friends of mine because I have been involved in sponsoring them throughout their careers, I was in our village pub the Rose and Crown, and a couple of the locals were talking to Richard Fisher, who does a lot for Nelson's Journey, but was saying that he wanted to do something more.

'So some of the locals told him that he wanted to speak to me and he came and said that he had heard I had a couple of famous friends and explained what Nelson's Journey is all about.

'That impressed me because I had a brain haemorrhage in 2006 so that could have left my children without their dad. So I phoned Will and Guy and they said, just tell us where and when.'

The event will see a raffle for a string of specialist motorcycle prizes, such as half a day at Swaffham's Hit The Dirt off-road practice track in association with Dave Barkshire Motorcycles and signed photographs of the evening's star guests.

The evening is being held on Saturday, February 12, starting at 6.30pm.

Mr Catterall added: 'Basically it is going to be a chat show with Karen Buchanan from Radio Norfolk hosting it. What I am also going to do, is set up a presentation of photos for each of the guys to talk us through what was happening and what they were thinking at the time, such as a picture I've got of Guy in a big crash.

'What we have done though is keep it for people from Frettenham, which is why we have booked the village hall. We could have filled a much bigger venue but we have chosen not to so we are restricted to 200, of which 130 are already sold.'

Tickets are 12.50 each, for more information contact Mr Catterall on 07810 806215.
