There are just nine days left of this year's Movember campaign and parties are being organised to celebrate the finest moustaches in Norwich.

Pencil, handlebar and just plain bushy moustaches have sprung up on the faces of men all over the world this month in support of raising awareness of men's health charities, such as The Prostate Cancer Charity.

The official Movember Norwich group is now halfway to its target of raising more than the 4,000 it managed last year, at 2,000.

The group has held the first of its Movember parties, a 'Mo'tivation Night' to keep people on track.

Held at The Orchard Gardens pub in North Walsham, a packed out crowd raised 742 with a barbecue, raffle and general night of fun - that even saw a man shave off his moustache of more than 30 years!

Movember Norwich organiser, Chris Wall, said: 'The night was great, we had a lot of people there and Movember has been given a massive boost.

'There have been lots more people taking part in Movember this year, it's been a really good amount, and people have been really keen to get involved.'

Fun awards were also given out at the event, with 'Best Mo So Far' going to Carl Rose, 'Lame Mo' being won by Edward Godden, Matt Starling winning 'Mr Mo'tivator' and Fay Parker claiming 'Miss Mid-Movember'.

The fun is set to continue on the evening of Friday, November 25 when the Movember Norwich members gather for a celebration at The Hog In Armour pub, on Charing Cross in Norwich.

The 'Dress to Suit Your Mo' party starts from 8pm and will include more awards, live music and fancy dress.

The Movember cause is also being upheld at Norwich Theatre Royal, where the venue's chef manager Nick Faghy and his team are joining in.

Mr Faghy, said: 'We have all tried to grow impressive moustaches before as a bonding exercise. This time, we decided to do it again but for a good cause.

'We are going to see who can finish the end of November with the most stunning facial hair and help to raise lots of money for a great cause at the same time.'

Elsewhere in Norwich, Wholesome grocers, on Swan Lane, are offering half-price coffees to people taking part in Movember. While staff at Almary Green Investments, on Meridian Way, are looking to take advantage of their managing director offering to double how much they raise, having already raised over 400.
