For more than ten years he hoarded a mountain of Nazi and German second war memorabilia in his Broadland bungalow.

Peter Green filled every nook and cranny of his home with machineguns, daggers, SS paraphernalia, Hitler Youth knives - and even a rocket launcher.

And now the vast array of weapons, SS helmets and uniforms that once resided in the bungalow at Lingwood, near Great Yarmouth are to go under the hammer tomorrow.

The army of 250 German armed forces and Hitler-themed items will be auctioned off at Horners in Acle from 10am, with military collectors counting down the minutes until they can bid for some of the very rare and pristine lots.

Mr Green, who served in the Parachute Regiment in the 1950s and died aged 68 six years ago, started his obsession with collecting the Third Reich memorabilia after he became fascinated with the good quality of German engineering and workmanship.

From the late 1980s to just weeks before his death Mr Green built up his German collection, which ended up taking over most of his bungalow.

And Mr Green was not shy about his collection as he told his neighbours in Manor Gardens about his obsession.

The hundreds of separate lots are being auctioned because Mr Green's wife has gone into care and his family do not have the room to store the collection or the knowledge to keep it in pristine condition.

The long list of lots include a M20 rocket launcher, a luger semi-automatic pistol, MG42 machine gun, an Afrika Korps helmet, an Iron Cross, Hitler Youth knife and SS cutlery.

Horners says the collection could be worth 20,000.
