Man prosecuted for fly tipping toxic asbestos

Just days after new recycling charges have come into force a man has been fined a thousand pounds for fly tipping toxic asbestos.
The incident, which took place before the waste fee was introduced, happened at Starling Court in Queens Hill, Costessey.
A man witnessed a van pull into the area and fill two communal bins which was later identified as asbestos insulation board.
Jordan Huggins, of Glenda Road, Norwich, pleaded guilty at Norwich Magistrates' Court and was fined £1,000 while South Norfolk Council was awarded full costs of £2,417.
Huggins also had to pay a victim surcharge of £100.
Last year there were over 700 reported incidents of fly tipping on public land around South Norfolk's district.
This cost the council more than £50,000 to clear up while private landowners also faced considerable bills to remove dumped waste.
