Man charged with assault at Norfolk youth football match

A 41-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged with assault following an altercation at a youth football match in Gorleston in January.

Alexander Taylor, of Whiting Road, Oulton, near Lowestoft, is alleged to have carried out on the assault during an incident in a match in which four people were arrested by police on the suspicion of assault.

The match involved Gorleston Rangers under16's B team and Hempnall under16s.

Taylor's alleged assault is said to have taken place during a Norfolk and Suffolk Youth League's shield quarter finals at the Gorleston Recreation Ground in Church Lane on January 24.

Yesterday Taylor appeared before Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court to be charged with assault.

He entered no plea and his case was adjourned for a week.

Taylor was released on bail with the condition that he does not attend any football matches organised through the Football Association.

A 33-year-old woman and a youth who were arrested on suspicion of assault were released without charge while the third person arrested - a youth - was referred to the youth offending team for a final warning.
