Train passengers are still facing disruption today because of a major track fault at London Liverpool Street station - and will continue to for the rest of the week.

A crack was identified during an inspection on the approach to Liverpool Street station at the weekend and, owing to the size of the crack, the part cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced. It means trains are unable to access two platforms.

Greater Anglia altered some services in yesterday's morning and afternoon rush-hours, including some cancellations and it will be a similar story today.

The 6am and 7.05am Norwich to Liverpool Street service were terminating at Colchester. The 7am Liverpool Street to Norwich service was cancelled and the 8.30am and 9.30am Liverpool Street to Norwich services start at Colchester.

The 2.30pm, 3pm and 3.30pm Norwich to Liverpool Street services terminate at Stratford, while the 5pm Norwich to Liverpool Street service ends at Colchester.

The 5.30pm and 6.10pm Liverpool Street to Norwich service starts at Stratford, while the 7.30pm Liverpool Street to Norwich service starts at Colchester.

Steve Hooker, Network Rail's head of maintenance for Anglia, said: 'I understand the inconvenience this issue causes and apologise to everyone affected. We are working hard to repair this fault as quickly and safely as possible, so that we can get a full service back up and running. I advise that passengers check before they travel as some journeys may be split between two trains and trains will be busier than usual.'

Jay Thompson, Greater Anglia train service delivery director, said: 'We're running as many trains as we can given that two platforms at Liverpool Street are closed. We're also doing our best to make sure customers are aware of any changes to their trains in advance.

'I'd like to reassure customers that the majority of our services across the network are running as normal, but we apologise to customers who have been affected by this track defect.'

Ticket restrictions will be lifted and tickets from Greater Anglia Main Line stations will also be valid on West Anglia services.
