Town residents show the love for where they live before Valentine’s Day

All things Wymondham were celebrated yesterday for the second annual Love Wymondham Day.

Held in the town market place the weekend before Valentine's Day, residents and visitors were treated to a variety of entertainment, including the Wymondham Rock Choir, and a bird of prey display from Norfolk Wild Encounters in aid of three charities.

Jess Allen, leader of Wymondham Rock Choir, said: 'We did it last year and absolutely loved it. This year we have quite a Valentine's theme to the performance, we're including songs like Only You and More Than A Feeling.

'It's a nice event, and it's good to support the local community. I like the historic feel of Wymondham, but I think the community spirit is the best thing.'

Historian Georgette Vale gave a talk on the town's most iconic feature, Market Cross, and the Central Hall held a creativity and wellbeing market, featuring a relaxation breathing and music therapy workshop and community musical performance, as well as stalls run by businesses from the area.

At the market a brand new venture by residents Nicola Maunders and Jo Ford was launched to help both the environment and cancer charity The Big C.

Veginets are reusable handmade bags created from materials such as net curtains.

One of the event's organisers Tony Vale said: 'I'm very pleased that this is the second year we have done this. It's proved to be equally as popular as last year.

'It's created an opportunity for different organisations to come together. It's a bit of an enabling exercise. I'm also encouraged by the growing business involvement.'

Town Team member Fran Young added: 'Wymondham Day is good for the town. It gives everybody an opportunity to work together to increase the footfall to the town centre and have a brilliant time. You can feel the community here.'

Guided tours of Wymondham Abbey took place throughout the day, and art groups in the area put on information displays in Wymondham Library.
