You can't get more local than buying food practically on your doorstep – and people living in one Golden Triangle road are lucky enough to have a trio of specialist shops offering great tasting food.

Gloucester Street is home to Ford and Yarham Fishmongers and Greengrocers, Banham Butchers and Dozen Artisan Bakery – and all three are among the latest businesses to get behind the Evening News Love Local campaign which aims to boost local support for local businesses.

'You get better quality, value and service from local shops and it is better for the environment and the local community too,' said Steve Yarham, 47, of Ford and Yarham Fishmongers and Greengrocers.

He explained that his family's shop had about 10 local suppliers, mostly within a five or 10 mile radius of the shop, and their fish is sourced from a wholesaler in Lowestoft.

'We have been here for about 15 years. We know most of our customers by name,' he said.

Across the road is 64-year-old Roger Kemp, who has been running Banham Butchers for about 10 years and gets his meat from various Norfolk farms.

He said: 'We sell all range of meats and it is all local stuff. Whatever people ask for we try to give them. They can buy what they want and how much they want.

'I enjoy my job because you meet so many lovely people around here – I think people enjoy coming to the local shops and having a chat.

'It's people's support that keeps us going – if they did not shop here we would not be here.'

Further up the street is Dozen Artisan Bakery, which is run by 30-year-old Tom Harding. The bakery team start baking bread and making the cakes and pastries on site at 2.30 every morning – and passersby can see them at work through the window throughout the day.

The bakery's sausage rolls with apple, red onion and rosemary, and their wide range of breads are among their best selling goodies.

Mr Harding said: 'It is all good quality stuff, with good quality ingredients, and it is all made here too – that is the key thing.

'I think people like shopping locally because you get the personal touch and the service.

'We know almost everyone who comes in here, and if they are new we give them a warm welcome. Everyone knows each other around here which is great.'
