A group of passers-by including a waste lorry driver stopped to help an elderly woman left bleeding after losing her footing on a busy city centre street.
The woman, thought to be in her 70s, stumbled and fell on Queens Road, near the Finkelgate junction, shortly before 9am this morning (Tuesday, August 20).
And after seeing the woman bleeding after having fallen onto the ground, a group of passers-by intervened to give her first aid.
Justin Brown, a lorry driver for PHS waste management, said: "It was a misfooting - she fell due to a weak ankle.
"I saw and got out and stemmed the bleeding, and called for an ambulance."
The 43-year-old, from North Walsham, added: "They did say it would be two hours initially and then 40 minutes, but they actually got here pretty quickly.
"We requested police because I only had limited first aid and they have more kits on board.
"No taxis were stopping and they have to carry first aid kits."
And Roy Flint, who also stopped to offer assistance, said: "Most people just weren't stopping.
"I came up [the road] afterwards and saw them all there.
"As I turned the corner I saw these guys here and thought they might need some help."
The Evans Cycles worker added: "She was alright. She actually seemed quite good. She didn't seem upset or in shock."
And a woman who also stopped to help but did not want to be named added: "She was sitting there and at one point we did have to get her [to lie] down."
The group of rescuers, which also included a young male Aviva employee, spent just over an hour at the roadside with the woman, who was treated by paramedics and driven to hospital in a rapid response vehicle.
Following the incident the left hand lane of Queens Road, shortly before the traffic lights at the junction with Finkelgate was closed and traffic was building up on the road.
And Sue Taylor, from Aladdin's Cave antiques shop, on nearby Hall Road, described the street as busy, and said: "People have seen accidents there as it's a main road.
"It is very difficult crossing the road - it is quite worrying."
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) said: "We were called at 8.42am with reports of a person who had fallen in Queens Road, Norwich.
"We sent a rapid response vehicle, which was on scene in four minutes, and took one person to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) for further care."
Norfolk Police were called to the incident but did not attend.
Earlier reports described the incident as a collision.
