A record number of new entries promises to make the traditional Saturday evening Lord Mayor's procession a special one this weekend.
More than 60 different groups have floats for this year’s procession through the city centre.
The carnival fever will start off on Newmarket Road at 5pm before heading along St Stephens Street, Red Lion Street and Castle Meadow to finish at St Martins Palace Plain, near the cathedral.
Culture and events manager at Norwich City Council, Helen Selleck, said: “I love the atmosphere when everyone is out making the most of this summertime festival in the city.
“This year we have some really fun street performances after the carnival, including a drum beating dragon and a huge turtle with a DJ on top.”
Judging this year’s procession for the lord mayor will be chief executive of the St Edmund’s Society Lorraine Bliss, honorary recorder for the city council Peter Jacobs, general manager of Chapelfield Shopping Centre Davina Tanner, BBC Radio Norfolk’s Lisa Reynolds and Evening News reporter David Freezer.
When the procession finishes at around 7pm, Lord Mayor of Norwich Jenny Lay will hold a civic reception for invited guests and will announce the winner at 10.15pm from the Lord Mayor’s Balcony at City Hall.
