The news will come as a blow to the hopes of residents who pressed for the station to reopen after Norfolk Police Authority closed it, deeming it not fit for purpose.
The station was shut in 2007 and the authority said it was exploring other uses for the premises.
South Norfolk Council granted conditional planning consent the following year to demolish the building and replace it with a shop and four flats.
A revised scheme detailing plans to replace the 1960s building, in Bridge Street, with five flats was subsequently submitted.
The plans to demolish the former police station and build five flats were approved with conditions at a meeting of South Norfolk Council's south and east area planning committee.
