Campaigners fighting to create a new community centre in Norwich have presented a draft business plan to Norfolk County Council.

Members of the committee for the proposed Silver Road Community Centre are hoping to step in when the existing day centre closes in 2012.

The county council has welcomed the project and a fresh meeting to discuss the level of community interest is scheduled to take place in September.

Labour councillor Julie Brociek-Coulton, who is one of the committee members, said: 'The committee have been campaigning against the closure of the actual Silver Rooms for two years now, and it would be a great opportunity for this lovely old building to be taken over with lots of community activity for all ages in a true community centre'.
