A former Norwich pub is set to be turned into a community centre run by the Norwich and Norfolk Muslim Association.
The former Queen Charlotte pub in Dereham Road, originally known as the Lord Nelson, has been shut for several years.
But new life will be breathed life into it after Norwich City Council's planning applications agreed the association can make minor alterations to it and turn it into a community centre.
The applicant has stated that the centre would be open to the whole local community and not be used as a place of worship.
The plans had been opposed by the Norwich and Norfolk branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) on the grounds that the area was poorly served with pubs.
But councillors unanimously agreed to grant planning permission, saying there was little chance of it re-opening as a pub.
