A group of Knitting Nanas are putting their skills to good use and helping make garments for local good causes.

Residents from The Manor House, a residential care home located in North Walsham Wood, have created their very own club to craft garments for good local causes.

The first project is to knit blankets, bonnets and teddies, all of which will be donated to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

The members of the club are Annie Bacon 72, Doreen Waters, 83, Eileen Hicks 86, Beryl Sadler 75, Jean Evans 82, Sheila Pilbrow 86, and Janet Pallett, 95.

The club was formed in April and the original idea came from two members, Janet Pallett, and Doreen Waters.

It is supported by Zoe Wilson who is a housekeeper at the care home and it is hoped more residents may join soon.

Wool is kindly donated by family and friends of the home, with more donations welcome.

Ms Pallett said: 'When I came here in March I asked if they had a knitting club and they said they would start one. Now we hold sessions every Tuesday afternoon for about an hour-and-a-half with one of the carers taking it.'

Home manager Emma Cooper said: 'The Knitting Nanas have created some fantastic items already, and when the items are complete it is hoped that a group can present the items personally at the baby unit.

'It is such a marvellous cause and the group enjoys getting together. The knitting abilities vary though so they all help each other in completing the various garments, blankets and soft toys.'

In conjunction with the Knitting Nanas' efforts, The Manor House held a coffee morning on Friday with a raffle in aid of the NICU Unit to support the group's efforts. The event took place as part of National Care Home Open Day, and also saw The Manor House host an afternoon of entertainment.
