The site previously allocated for a waste incinerator could become the heart of a new project that will trigger economic growth in the area.

Councillors from Norfolk County Council will decide whether to lease land to EP UK Power Development Ltd to create a carbon capture plant which is needed as part of the proposed gas-fired power station near King's Lynn.

Cllr Andrew Proctor, leader of Norfolk County Council, said: 'This land is part of an industrial estate that has been sitting unused for many years. A new gas fired power station would trigger economic growth in the area, bringing with it up to 60 permanent jobs at the station plus many more construction jobs if built.'

The site is in the vicinity of the existing King's Lynn A Power Station and includes an area known as The Willows, which is owned by Norfolk County Council. If agreed, EP UK Power Development would lease land from Norfolk County Council and the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk.

In 2014 Norfolk County Council put in place a number of protections to prevent the site being used to generate power from the incineration of waste or waste products.

Councillors will meet at full council to make a decision on Monday, July 23, 2018.
