Friends, family and fans of a Norwich busker who died last month will sing his favourite song at six locations across England this weekend.
Jonny Walker died aged 37 at a hospital in Leeds on March 14, 2018. He was a well-known musician who helped and campaigned for a variety of causes.
On Saturday, April 7, those who knew him - and fans of his music - will congregate in Leeds, Liverpool, Norwich, York, Harrogate and Hebden Bridge.
There will be a minute’s silence at 10.30am, followed by a group performance of his favourite song, ‘Let it Be’ by the Beatles, in his memory.
“Jonny knew how to reach out and connect, a rare thing in today’s society,” the event organiser said.
“He helped different causes from the homeless, special needs to his own campaign to ‘Keep Streets Live’.”
Mr Walker busked with the likes of Billy Bragg, Mark Thomas, and Bill Bailey in Camden to fight for busker’s rights.
He even accompanied Jamie Olivier at a wedding, the event organiser added.
“Jonny was a father, a son, a brother, a friend and a man of the people.
“He will be missed by many and as time goes on, his amazing legacy will live on,” the organiser said.
Those taking part in the tribute performance will meet at the various locations for 10am.
In Norwich, the minute’s silence and performance will take place at Haymarket, outside of the Primark store - a popular location for buskers in the city.
“This is a time to remember Jonny and the joy he brought to a lot of people around the UK and the world,” the event organiser said.
Mr Walker wrote his own music and released an EP called ‘This Is Not Me’ which is available on iTunes.
The event organiser said Mr Walker learned guitar from Jon Gomm and his dad, who is a retired vicar who performed regularly in his church.
“Jonny lived a full life were busking and music was in his very soul,” the organiser added.
