It is nearly party time in Attleborough - as the finishing touches are put to the summer carnival ahead of its return this weekend.

The two-day event draws thousands to the town, with an open-air festival planned for Saturday (July 11) evening and a lively carnival procession the following morning (July 12).

At Saturday night's party in the park, which will be staged at the Recreation Ground on Thieves Lane, Bon Jovi tribute band Bon Giovi will be headlining, with other acts including East Anglian singer songwriter Danny James and blues rockers Egypt also stepping behind the mic.

Local butcher Tony Perkins will be providing a barbecue, with The Duck Truck and Friar Tucks Fish and Chips also on hand for a quick bite.

On Sunday, dozens of brightly decked out floats will leave Fairland Drive at 12.30pm, travelling through the town and arriving at the ground.

Throughout the day there will be stalls, crafts, live entertainment and displays from Mighty Smith strongman and the Essex Dog Display Team.

A funfair will entertain families at both events.

Sam Aghabi, a member of the organising committee, said: 'The weather is looking good so as long as that is kind to us we should have a fantastic weekend.

'On the Sunday we have just booked a 50ft long inflatable obstacle course and an inflatable human table football arena.

'Both of which will be free for both youngsters and the young at heart to have a go on.

'I'm certain there will be something available for those of any age.'

Gates for the party in the park open at 5.30pm on the Saturday.Entrance costs £5 for adults aged over 16, £3 for those aged between 11 and 15 and under 10s go free.

Admission to recreation ground on the Sunday is £3 for adults aged over 16, £1 for 11 to 15-year-olds and free for under 10s.
