Landowners have pre-empted plans to almost double the size of Attleborough by launching a public consultation on a '4,000-home village' on the edge of the town.
Attleborough is earmarked for around 4,500 extra houses as part of a district council strategy to accommodate new growth over the next 20 years.
A consortium of landowners has announced a series of public meetings to shape its vision for thousands of homes to the south of the market town.
Officials representing Attleborough Land, which is promoting a 400-acre 'village' to the south of the railway line for the majority of the growth proposed under Breckland Council's core strategy, will stage a 'community planning weekend' in the town hall on February 5-6.
The scheme by the landowners, part of the London-based Ptarmigan Land Group, comes months before the local authority publishes its area action plan for the development of Attleborough up to 2026.
The consultation, to be run by architects John Thompson and Partners, has been welcomed by Taking Attleborough Forward, which was set up in 2008 in response to the town's expansion.
