At the Royal Wedding Kate Middleton proved how she is continuing to fly the flag for British style and glamour. Beauty writer EMMA LEE finds out how you can get her look - bagging yourself a handsome prince might be a bit trickier.

Skincare

Kate's complexion is just radiant. The first rule to flawless glowing blemish free skin? Never, ever forget to take off your make up before bed. Never. Ever. At best it dulls the complexion and makes you prone to spots. At worst it can be ageing.

Here at Life Matters we're recent converts to cloth cleansing, which seems to work so much more effectively (for us, anyway) than using a traditional cleansing lotion with cotton wool.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser has long been a favourite of beauty editors. A starter kit, including muslin cloths, costs 13.25 and there's a counter at John Lewis. We're also fans of Aveda's All Sensitive cleanser (16.50, Jarrold's). A little goes a long way and it leaves our skin squeaky clean, but without it feeling tight and dry. We use it with a regular face cloth.

Another beauty lesson learned is to use a separate eye cream – since we added it to our regime it's taken years off us. We're massive fans of Starting Over eye cream by Origins (25, John Lewis). Containing mimosa, the little pot of magic helps to reduce crepiness, fine lines and wrinkles.

Another addition to our beauty regime which is worth setting the alarm clock a bit earlier for is serum. They first really registered on our radar when the shelves in Boots were cleared of No 7's Protect and Perfect after it was mentioned on the BBC science show Horizon as a product that lived up to the hype on the packaging. It took us a while to be convinced of the benefits of a serum, but now we wouldn't skip it.

There's a serum for everything – anti ageing, anti-blemish, you name it. Life Matters loves Ren Max Moisturiser Concentrate (32). It just glides on and leaves our skin looking plumped up and youthful.

Don't forget to finish off with a good moisturiser as a protective layer against the elements.

Hair

Kate has officially knocked Cheryl Cole off her throne as Life Matters' number one celebrity hair crush. Ah, what we wouldn't give for those glossy chestnut waves.

With our own tresses in need of some serious TLC, one of the Life Matters team went to see Susie Dunderdale at the newly opened Aveda counter at Jarrold's.

Aveda was founded in 1978 with the aim of providing beauty industry professionals with high performance flower and plant based beauty products which as well as being kind to their customers would be kind to the planet too.

A consultation with Susie starts with her asking questions about your hair, such as whether you'd describe it as fine or thick, how often you have to wash it, whether it's oily or prone to dryness, whether it's chemically treated, if you use heated styling products on it regularly and what your main haircare concerns are. She then takes a strand of hair from the back of the head, dampens it, as hair is at its most fragile when it's wet, and pulls it to test its strength.

Life Matters' volunteer has fine, straight hair, which is prone to frizziness, even after being tackled with the straighteners, so Susie prescribed Smooth Infusion shampoo (14.50) and conditioner (16.50) to moisturise and reduce frizz. Because she has chemically coloured hair and uses a heated styling tool every day, Susie also recommended using Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment (21) once a week to help repair and smooth her hair. She was given samples of each and reported seeing a noticeably improvement in her hair's behaviour in just one wash.

Aveda is offering hair prescriptions, including diagnosis, samples to take home and try and a voucher for 10 off when you buy full-sized bottles of your recommended products, at its counter at Jarrold's until Saturday.

Makeup

With the eyes of the world on you, you have to look picture perfect. Amy Curson from the MAC counter at Jarrold's creates a look fit for a 21st century princess...

First of all, prep the skin using cleansing wipes (13.50) to get rid of any traces of make up and grime. Use Stobe Cream (21.50) to moisturise and boost tired looking skin, followed by Prep and Prime Skin (18) to calm and soothe, blot away excess oil, even out skin redness and make sure your foundation goes on flawlessly.

Create Kate's dewy complexion by applying Mineralize Compact foundation (23.50) with a brush and use Pro Longwear concealer (13.50) to cover up any blemishes and dark shadows under the eyes and use Blot Powder (17.50) to control shine without adding any colour. A dab of Powder Blush (17) in a shade like Margin can really add a healthy glow – just don't go overboard with the brush.

Kate is a natural beauty and goes for timeless colours. For the eyes, Amy sticks to a palette of classic neutrals with just a hint of colour, sweeping the nude beige shade Painterly (13.50) and soft muted plum brown Quarry (11.50) over the eyelids, then using Brule (11.50) to highlight the brow. Use Penultimate Brow Marker (11.50) to fill in brows and make them look neat and tidy and use Prussian Powerpoint Pencil eyeliner (13) to give eyes definition. And don't forget mascara. Splashproof Lash (13.50) will give your lashes a long-lasting boost of volume.

And last of all, lips. Perfect your pout with Prep and Prime Lip (10.50), a colour-free and moisturising base. For the finishing touches Amy uses Lip Pencil in the rose-tinted shade Whirl (10.50) to create an outline and then fills in with a creamy neutral pink lipstick in Patisserie (13.50).

With skin, hair and make-up sorted, all that's missing now is the handsome prince...
