Householders in the Broadland area are being reminded to secure their homes and sheds because of a spate of burglaries.

Police have issued the warning because people are leaving their doors and windows open during the warmer weather, creating an easy entry for opportunist thieves.

Inspector Carolyn James said: “We would just like to remind householders that they should not leave their properties insecure. For example, even if they are spending time in their gardens, they should still make sure their properties are locked. It is up to all of us, not to make life easy for criminals and do all we can to prevent people from becoming victims of these crimes.”

Shed security is also a priority with efficient locks and secure windows which can also prevent thieves from taking expensive garden equipment. Insp James added: “Don't allow thieves to go window shopping, obscure glazing with film or nets. Not only will expensive items be stolen but tools from the shed could be used to break into the home.”

There has also been a slight increase in the number of incidents of criminal damage in the area. Officers have stepped up patrols in problem areas but would also appeal for the publics help in tracing those responsible for the acts of vandalism and damage so that they can be dealt with.

The advice to the public is to ensure that they report any suspicious activity or incidents to Norfolk Constabulary on 0845 456 4567 or anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 5555 111.
