The inaugural East Anglia Dexter Group Herd Competition was hailed as a 'triumph' by its organisers, with 18 herds competing to become the 2015 Herd Of the Year.

The Christine Brookes Memorial Salver was awarded to the Clobell Herd, owned by Paul and Jackie Brind from Belton, near Great Yarmouth, which led the large herd section. The runner-up in that category was Nigel and Susan Dixon's Coltsfoot herd from Thorpe Market.

The winner of the small herd was Kate Thorogood's Wheatsheaf Herd from Bedfordshire, which also came out on top on the Youngstock category. The reserve was the Seraphim Herd, owned by Joan Angel from Fleggburgh near Hemsby.

The judge was leading Red Poll breeder Joy Broughton from Northamptonshire, who said: 'I was really impressed with cattle I saw and you are all to be congratulated – class winner or not – on the standard of your stock.'

The Dexter is the smallest British breed of cattle, and is a dual purpose animal used to produce milk and beef.
