Irish eyes were smiling at Barchester's Hethersett Hall Care Home, as residents and staff celebrated the national day of Ireland, St Patrick's Day.

The people at the home enjoyed some Irish charm as they marked the day with Gerry, who is a traditional Irish singer. The chef at the home prepared a feast for lunch of Steak Guiness Pie, Champ and seasonal vegetables, followed by Irish Cream Cheesecake, and drowned the shamrock with a pint of Guinness.

General manager Carol Norton said: 'Today has been wonderful - so many of our staff and residents are wearing green to celebrate St Patrick's Day! We planned an Irish-themed day for the people who live here and they really enjoyed themselves and we try to make each day interesting for our residents.'

People at the home also participated in the Sport Relief where they held a fun day, with staff and friends dressing up as cartoon characters and each donating 2.

Mrs Norton and staff dressed up as characters including Cruella De Ville, Dora the Explorer, one of the 101 Dalmatians, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Marge Simpson.

One of the home's regular entertainers, Ronnie Ceroc, sang throughout the day dressed up as Tigger, with his wife dressed as Alice in Wonderland.

The residents enjoyed a glass of Sangria along with red cup cakes made by the resident chefs, and the staff did an egg and spoon race cheered on by all the residents. So far they have raised more than 70 with the event.
