Children could be automatically signed up for free school meals in a move which experts have said will protect families from ending up on the street.
The Local Government Association, which represents councils across the UK, has said automatic enrolment for free school meals should be introduced.
It also states eligibility for these meals should be expanded for all pupils who meet the income criteria regardless of their family circumstances.
