Visitor restrictions are in place at a hospital children's ward while norovirus tests are carried out.

The common stomach bug causes diarrhoea and vomiting and is sometimes known as the winter vomiting bug.

Tests for norovirus are being done on one patient at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital's Buxton Ward, according to a hospital spokesman.

She said: 'We are currently restricting admission into a couple of bays until results become available later today.

'There are no other known cases of norovirus in the hospital.

'We would like to remind the general public not to visit the ward unless absolutely necessary, and also to wash their hands regularly with warm, soapy water to reduce the risk of catching norovirus which is currently circulating in the community.'

Anyone who has the stomach bug and is concerned should call their GP or the NHS 111 advice line.
