Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), Spire Norwich Hospital and the University of East Anglia (UEA) are taking part in CAPAbility, a clinical trial investigating how two different type of commonly used total knee implants compare in term of performance and functional abilities.
The trial is to determine if a newer design of knee implant, which is designed specifically to give patients a more normal experience, does clinically provide an improvement compared to the existing standard implant used currently within the NNUH and the private, Colney-based Spire Norwich Hospital.
Some 80 participants are to be recruited to the trial which is being conducted on patients with knee osteoarthritis and due to have total knee replacement surgery either at either hospital. The first three trial participants were operated on at Spire Norwich Hospital in July and now 30 pc of patients have been recruited. For more information visit website www.uea.ac.uk/capability
