More than 50 carers flocked to Sprowston library yesterday for the Care for Carers event.

The library, which is based in Recreation Ground Road, is usually closed on a Monday but it opened its doors and welcomed people between 10am and midday to find out more about services available to them.

More than 20 organisations exhibited including Mind, Age UK Norfolk, Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind and The Stroke Association.

Chairman of Care for Carers, Peter Rowley, said: 'The morning was better than we could have hoped for. We had people come from as far as Thetford and north Norfolk. Our president Ian Gibson said at our AGM last week that carers' groups should get together and save money.

'We also plan to help young people who are suffering from domestic violence, bullying, drugs and alcohol problems as well as young carers. The morning has changed some people's lives. They didn't realise the type of things carers and the cared-for can do.'

Mr Rowley was delighted with the turnout and said that Care for Carers would hold another similar event on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Hewett School.
