The region's rail operator is investing £100,000 on seats on district railway lines which have been hit by delays and cancellations over the last few weeks.

Abellio Greater Anglia is spending the money on replacing the upholstery on 2,000 seats on its fleet of Class 170 trains.

The train operate on local railway lines in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

Fleet manager Dave Lupton said: 'We are delighted to begin this refresh of the seat covers on all our Class 170 carriages, which will deliver a significant improvement to the travelling environment for passengers.'

The Class 170 fleet comprises four two-car and eight three-car trains which operate services between Norwich and Cambridge, Ipswich and Lowestoft, Norwich and Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, Cromer and Sheringham.

Services on the Norwich to Great Yarmouth line were cancelled for four days in November because of a lack of trains.
