Quay Pride, the project of partners Andrew Livingstone, 37, and Justin Margetts, 36, has been given the go ahead, after Great Yarmouth Borough Council issued a premises licence.

The licence will allow the pub - which will welcome cabaret performances on Friday nights - to open from midday until midnight Sunday to Thursday and midday until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mr Livingstone said: 'My partner and I have been talking about opening our own bar for quite a while now - we've been together for two years and it's something we've often discussed.

'We have looked at a number of different venues together but were on a day trip to Yarmouth, saw this one was available and thought it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.'

The pair are hoping the venture will bring something different to the town, also providing a space for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community groups to make use of, as well as pub-goers.

He added: 'We want to create a bar that will identify as a safe space for the LGBT+ community, where everybody can feel welcome and comfortable.

'We look at the success that other seaside towns like Brighton has had in this area, so thought Great Yarmouth would be a great place to be.

'We are moving from Ipswich and find that in Norfolk and Suffolk, outside of Norwich there aren't too many places that are identifiable as LGBT venues.'

The owners are already looking to engage in their new community, having got involved in fundraising for the businesses affected by the Regent Road fire.

'We are investing a lot in this project and are keen to bring as much fun to Yarmouth as we can,' said Mr Livingstone.

The venue is due to open on October 22, in the former Quayside pub on South Quay and will create around half a dozen new jobs.
