A glider made an unscheduled landing in a field close power lines near the A140 and A47.

The glider, which had earlier taken off from Norfolk Gliding Club at Tibenham, near Diss, landed in a field at Dunston, near Norwich, at about 4.10pm yesterday, close to overhead power cables.

Club member Colin Chambers said the glider had been attempting a 50km (31 miles) triangular flight.

“There was no damage to the glider and the pilot was ok. There is no cause for alarm”, he said.

“We had two gliders land out today. It's not unusual. We need thermals to sustain us in the air and when they are not there pilots may need to pick a land-able field.”

Mr Chambers is controller of the Eastern Regionals competition, being held at Tibenham all week,

He said the glider that landed was not taking part in the competition, and was due to be collected by a ground crew.

A Norfolk police spokesman confirmed officers had attended but found no one with the aircraft.
