It brings the total number of pubs which have announced the same news to five in the last week, with all owned by Ei Publican Partnerships.

It began with the Garden House, in Pembroke Road, which said it would close on Sunday, October 14 after the team said they were denied a new lease by the owners, with the pub set to be taken over by Craft Union Pub.

A day or two later, the team at the York Tavern, on Leicester Street in the golden triangle, said they would be stepping down after four years after talks over a new lease broke down.

And then Brickmakers pub and venue, on Sprowston Road, said its owners would not be renewing their lease after 15 years, due to a rent increase which made the business untenable.

Now, two more pubs have confirmed they are to close.

Gibraltar Gardens, on Heigham Street, said on Saturday that they have already closed after negotiations broke down.

On Facebook, they said they had enjoyed their time at the pub and had worked hard to build trade back up since the pub's last closure.

Ei has denied imposing higher rents on its pubs, and chief executive Simon Townsend said: 'To suggest we are attempting to force out publicans and shut pubs is simply not the case and we'd like to reassure local pub-goers that we remain committed to running great pubs in Norwich.'

He said they were 'constantly seeking new ways to support our publicans and their businesses', as well as investing pubs to deliver 'memorable experiences' for customers around the country.

And the Woodman Pub, on North Walsham Road, confirmed they would be closing on Friday, September 28, when they will have a leaving party to mark the end of an era.

They said they had reached a mutual agreement with Ei, which did not centre on lease or rent negotiations.

Sunday, September 23 will be their final food service, they said on Facebook.

They posted: 'So again all of us here at the Woodman would like to thank every single person who has supported the business over the years and we hope to see you all again in some aspect in the future. So thank you and until next time.'
