A former assistant editor of the Eastern Daily Press has joined an ancient trade association dating back to the 1400s.
Duncan Jeffery, who held the senior post at the EDP from 1979 to 1986 and is now head of communications at Westminster Abbey, was cloathed as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers at Stationers' Hall in the City of London this week.
The Stationers' Company, which is the City of London Livery Company for the communications and content industries, was founded in 1403 when manuscript writers and illuminators formed a guild.
The company received a Royal Charter in 1557 when it was given a monopoly in printing and the responsibility to check and register all books produced in England.
London's livery companies now promote charities and provide networking opportunities.
There are currently nearly 900 members of the Stationers' Company, the vast majority of whom are senior executives in the complete range of trades in the visual and graphic communications industries.
