Former Norwich City footballer Antoine Sibierski said his "shattered" family could not understand why his teenage daughter hanged herself.

The body of Sibylle Sibierski, 18, was found by police who forced their way into her apartment in Altrincham following reports of concern for her welfare.

It emerged the part-time nightclub promoter was arrested on suspicion of assault the previous day after a row with her boyfriend at her Denmark Street home and was later released without charge.

Ex-Premier League striker Sibierski, who played 16 times for the Canaries last season, and his wife Isabelle said: “Sibylle was a beautiful, intelligent, loving and independent girl.

"Like most girls of her age she was creating her own life away from her parents. In this we fully supported her. We had a normal relationship with our teenage daughter, we had our differences of opinion but the love between us all was strong.

"Sibylle adored her brother and sister. She loved us. She loved her friends. She loved life.

"We cannot understand why our child took her own life. We know that she had been arrested on Sunday for allegedly scratching the face of her boyfriend. The day after this she ended her life. We don't believe for a moment that Sibylle meant to leave this world.

"What we do know is that our world has been shattered and will never be the same again.”

French centre forward Sibierski, 35, has retired from playing and is now involved in the football agency business.

The details of Miss Sibierski's death have been passed to the coroner and an inquest is expected to take place later this year.
