The environmental ranger team at Great Yarmouth Borough Council has pledged to continue with its dog mess clamp down after a man was fined £100 for failing to clear up after his pet.

The environmental ranger team at Great Yarmouth Borough Council has pledged to continue with its dog mess clamp down after a man was fined £100 for failing to clear up after his pet.

Graham Wright, from Rotherham, pleaded guilty to failing to clear up his pet dog's mess from a grass verge in Ormesby Road, Caister.

Following his conviction, senior environmental ranger Paul Shucksmith said: “There is strong public opinion about the issue of dog fouling - it is not only antisocial but could be potentially hazardous especially to young children.

“The council takes the problem very seriously and, as in this case, and will persecute if we get relevant information about offenders.”

As well as the £100 fine Wright was ordered by Yarmouth magistrates to pay the prosecution costs of £70.
