A Norfolk figurative painter has been shortlisted for the Curwen Figurative Painting Prize, a major award with judges including Sir Peter Blake, who created the sleeve design for the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The shortlisted works by Will Teather include a number of carnivalesque paintings, a number of which are set in Great Yarmouth Hippodrome.

The artist, who has a studio at Muspole Workshops in Norwich, said: 'I am thrilled to be shortlisted by such an esteemed panel. I have worked hard to develop my painting practice over the last ten years and it seems to be paying off.'

The winner will be announced following an exhibition in October at the Curwen Gallery, and receive a cash prize and a solo exhibition.
