A Norwich shopping centre is to become a hub of fun for parents and their children all next week as part of a programme of events to celebrate National Family Week.

From outdoor screenings of Disney's family favourite Wall-E; to classic cars being displayed by Lotus; storytelling, music sessions, puppet shows and craft workshops, the Chapelfield Shopping Centre will be the place to go for family fun next week.

Chapelfield Plain will be the focus of most of the entertainment with interactive games on the big screen and inflatable sports challenges taking place at the venue between Mondayand Sunday, June 6.

National Family Week, which started last year, is the UK's biggest annual celebration of family life aiming to highlight the importance of quality time together and promote the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.

Sheridan Smith, marketing manager at Chapelfield, said: 'As part of Capital Shopping Centres, a National Family Week promotional partner; we are delighted to be hosting a range of family-focused activities over the course of National Family Week.

'In the heart of Norwich, families of all kinds from the local community are invited to come along to experience the free events designed to entertain and engage adults and children of all ages.'

As well as fun and games, visitors to Chapelfield will also be able to find out more about a number of regional charities which will have a presence at the shopping centre throughout the week.

The RSPB will be there with children's activities and information for all the family on Tuesday, June 1, while representatives from BREAK, which provides care and holidays for people in need in parts of the county, will be talking about their work.

The pre-school music association (PRESMA) will also be hosting interactive music sessions for babies through to older children on Wednesday, June 2.

As well as Norwich there will be action-packed and fun-filled family events are taking place in every corner of the country so families everywhere can enjoy eating, learning, playing, exploring and getting out and active together.

Last May the Evening News reported how families in Norwich helped set a new record for the world's biggest picnic as part of the country's first National Family Week.

Sprowston Community High School hosted 250 picnickers who joined 8,300 people at 120 venues across the country on the same day to set a new Guinness World Record.

During the week, on Tuesday, June 1, a ground breaking national inquiry chaired by Esther Rantzen and run by national charity 4Children, will visit the shopping centre. The Family Commission - Happy Families for Today and Tomorrow is now a year into deliberations having consulted with thousands of families nationwide and will be speaking to people at Chapelfield about their views on modern family life and asking them about the support and help that families need to flourish.
