It's often labelled the nation's favourite dish.

And families in Rackheath learnt how to cook curry from scratch for the master of Indian food.

Parents and their children took part in a master class with the Bhaji Man himself, better known as Don Lear.

At the event organised by Broadland District Council, Mr Lear spoke to families about the joys of cooking, the taste of fresh food and explained that cooking times are little more than opening a jar if you choose to make your own meals.

Economic Development Officer at Broadland District Council Jane Bagley, said: 'We have run five cookery sessions now at the EcoCube in our Eco Kitchen.

'They have been really successful and very well received.

'All of the attendees have fed back that they have gone on to cook the curries from scratch at home.'

The meat came from local suppliers and all the budding chefs worked in pairs to cook a dish from the Bhaji Man's range.

Once the food was cooked, everyone sat down together and shared the food they had made, which included chicken korma, chicken jalfrezi, bombay potatoes and rice.

Mrs Bagley added: 'Everyone commented on the taste and how much they enjoyed cooking together.

'It was interesting that the young people commented on how the food wasn't brightly coloured like takeaways and they were shocked to learn that food colourings are added to some dishes to make them look more appealing.'
