A 'strictly non-football pub' will be making a special exception this Saturday for England's World Cup quarter final match.

The Three Lions will take on Sweden at 3pm and the Lord Mayor's Procession will start at 6pm - having been put back an hour to avoid a clash.

For The Eagle in Newmarket Road, the procession is their biggest day of the year.

But after England secured a place in the quarter final on Tuesday, the pub was inundated with emails from concerned families that had become divided, with half wanting to watch the procession from the ideally situated pub and half wanting to watch the England game.

Subsequently, landlord James Linder made the decision to 'go with the people' and purchase two large TVs, which will be erected on the outside of the pub.

He said: 'It's a family day so we didn't want to cause divides. Now families will be able to enjoy our usual hog roast and the game before the procession.'
