Britain's Got Talent might have finished for another year - but on Wednesday night eight acts will go head to head for a chance to compete in the final of the very first Norfolk's Got Talent competition. PETER WALSH looks at those taking part in heat one.

More than 70 acts applied but just 32 have survived as the quest to prove that the county is bursting with talent prepares to enter its final stages.

The very first Norfolk's Got Talent competition was launched back in March with the aim of unearthing the very best home-grown talent giving people the chance to shine on the stage.

The competition, which is being backed by the Evening News, received scores of entries ranging from singers to dance acts and comedians to magicians but in the end just 32 made the final cut. Those acts now go forward to a series of heats to be held at The Talk in Norwich, starting on Wednesday, where they will go head to head for the right to win a place in the final in July and a chance of the 500 first prize.

The acts that will have to impress judges Joe Ringer, Holly Graham, and Heather Milan are:

Chermond School of Gymnastics and Dance, based at the City Academy Norwich in Earlham Road, has been turning talented youngsters into accomplished performers since it was formed back in 1980. Last year two of its members, Shaine Young and his sister Lucinder, known collectively as trapeze act Shailou, impressed the judges on Britain's Got Talent.

Twisted Entity, is a musical act featuring Matthew Levick, 20, and Craig Townsend, 21, from Drayton, near Norwich. The act consists of performances with props, outfits, and choreography to a variety of classic and modern songs. The vocal delivery is harmonic, creating unique interpretations of songs. They have recently taken part in the LGBT Talent Competition, making it through to the finals.

Steve Medler, 17, is a comedy magician from Aylsham. Steve reached the final in the Norfolk Find a Star at the Pavilion competition held at Cromer in November 2009.

Thomas Piggot, 35, from St Philips Road, off Dereham Road, Norwich is a musical theatre singer who has no previous competition experience.

Trackz is the name of a hip hop act formed by 14-year-old Duane Butler.

The Two Ukes, a Ukulele duo featuring James Maas, 16, from Loddon. The two-piece are a ukulele covers band which plays rock covers in a different style. Their biggest gig to date was last year in front of 8,000 fans when they supported Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity who turned on the Christmas lights at Chapelfield.

Craig Catchpole, 19, is a singer from Long Stratton who sings all types of music, but specialises in musical theatre. He studied Musical Theatre at City College Norwich for two-and-a-half years and has done lots of amateur dramatics.

He has played Marius in Les Miserables at the Gorleston pavilion. He has also reached the final of the Mini Mall Star completion held at the Castle Mall and the final of the adult competition at the same venue in 2007 and is a winner of the H Factor talent contest in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.

Rowan Perrow, 12, is a singer from Saxlingham Nethergate and member of the Norfolk Youth Music Theatre who performed as the orphan Annie at the Playhouse this year.

The heats will be held on June 9, 16, 23 and 30 with the best two from each round going through to the final on Sunday July 4.
